Have you ever been to somebody’s house and found that their clock runs 10 or 15 minutes earlier and when you bring it to their attention, you realize it was intentionally set that way?

Well, I am one of those people and my clock is always set to run ten minutes earlier.

So if you are wondering if this little trick works in making people earlier or more punctual, I’ll tell you my experience from the perspective of someone who actually does it.

This little trick works if you live with a loved one who is perpetually late.

Because they aren’t the ones that have adjusted the time earlier, they would often not remember even if you have told them several times.

They most likely would check their phones to confirm the time before leaving the house or going on to do what they need to get done but that already gives them a 10-minute heads up.

The 10 to 15 minutes time difference is small enough to not make much of a difference and for you to overlook. Anything over that like 30 minutes, for instance, becomes unrealistic and your clock is pretty much useless.

Now for the person who sets the time,

Setting the clock earlier doesn’t necessarily trick you because you set it that way. It however gives you a buffer period when you look up at the time and realize you are running out of time.

For instance, it is easy to get carried away when you are supposed to be somewhere at a later time but something else has your attention currently.

You get so engrossed in what it is that you are doing currently and you look up at the time and see that it is 10 minutes from the time you were planning on leaving the house.

You are startled and you jump thinking you’ve got just 10 minutes to get out of the house, you start panicking, then you remember your clock runs earlier and you adjusted it to run 10 minutes ahead of the regular time.

Now you’ve got 20 minutes instead of 10 minutes to get out of the house and you sigh in relief.
I can’t count how many times this was me.

This only works for people who use clocks though and if you don’t have one, now might be a good time to get one. They also make for a very nice decor piece on your wall.

If you still prefer not to use clocks or adjusting them earlier just seems too silly for you, you can always set reminders or alarms to remind you to get ready on time.

The downside to this of course is that you can sometimes forget to set these alarms or reminders which is why the clock trick seems to be a bit more reliable and consistent.

Ready to try this little clock trick?

There you have it! You have made it to the end of this little post on how setting your clock 10 minutes ahead can make you earlier.

I hope that in a way I have managed to convince you that this isn’t just a silly trick and that you should try it for yourself and see if it works for you just like it does for me. What do you have to lose in trying it anyway?
