Clutter, like a weed, is an enemy you keep fighting because if left alone, it takes over. Here are 6 simple things to do daily for a clutter-free space that are guaranteed to leave your space looking more organized.

If you are serious about getting more organized, you have most likely faced one of the common problems that many people encounter when it comes to organization.

This problem is: maintaining an organized space.

It is one thing to shop for all the things you need, decluttering, and putting your space together to finally get it to look as aesthetically pleasing as the pictures you see on Pinterest.

But how exhausting is it if it only looks that way for a few days before things are all over the place again?

I have concluded that the easiest way to keep your space looking tidy and organized all the time is to do simple things regularly that prevent the clutter from building up in the first place (a nip-it-in-the-bud kind of situation).

Below, I will be sharing some really simple things you can do daily to help keep your space tidy at all times.

1. Make your bed as soon as you wake up

The first point on this list is to make your bed first thing in the morning.

Being told to make your bed is something you’ve most likely heard a million times since you were a kid.

It probably brings back memories of your Mom reminding you to make your bed.

But as cliché as this sounds, this is one thing that drastically changes the look of your room.

A made bed makes your room look tidy, even if the rest of the room isn’t as clean.

Likewise, a tidy room with the bed unmade makes it look less orderly.

Why do I recommend you make it as soon as you wake up?

Well, procrastination.

It requires less discipline to make it as soon as you wake up than it would after putting it off for a bit.

The longer you prolong it, the higher the chances it might not get done that day.

It is also an excellent motivation not to go back to bed.

Also, making your bed every morning is a good practice of self-discipline.

If you struggle with discipline, a great place to start is making your bed every morning.

According to Jim Rohn, “the discipline required to make your bed every morning is the same one required to accomplish your tasks.”

So, exercise that discipline muscle by making your bed every morning, and it will be easier to accomplish your daily requirements.

2. Use organizers

I have come to love organizers because the smaller compartments make it easy for different things to have their own space.

There are organizers for everything from your drawers to your closets and even your bathroom cabinets.

Organizers make it easy to place things back in their place after use and reduce the clutter that accumulates by dumping different things in the exact location.

They instantly make your place look tidier and put together.

You can find organizers for any budget type.

They are always available in stores like Ikea, Amazon, or even the Dollar Store.

They usually have lots of options that would work excellently for your space.

Some of my favourite ones are these clear plastic set for your drawers, these ones that are perfect for your clothes, and these must-have cord organizers to keep your cables tidy.

3. Place things back as soon as you are done with them

I understand that if you were not doing this before, it would take some time and effort to get into the habit of it.

But it is a practice that will benefit you in the long run.

Placing things back in their place doesn’t take much time and would save you a lot of time you use in cleaning up your space when the mess accumulates.

It is an efficient way to keep your space always looking tidy.

Initially, it might take a lot of self-convincing to get yourself to do it, but if you stick to it long enough, it gets easier and eventually uncomfortable to put things off.

4. Doing dishes after each meal

Dirty dishes are the number one culprit when it comes to a messy kitchen.

If you do your dishes once a day, there will be ample time when you have dirty dishes lying in the sink.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a clean sink whenever you walked into your kitchen?

If you agree, doing your dishes after each meal doesn’t sound so bad, then, am I right?

If you are one of the people who already do this, bravo!

You have cultivated a great habit that would make maintaining an organized life a whole lot easier.

Some reasons why you should consider doing your dishes after each meal are:

It feels less like a chore

Chances are, if you only do your dishes once or twice a day, depending on how many meals you have, you will have accumulated a good number of dirty dishes that would make cleaning them feel like a mundane task.

If you clean them after each meal, there will be fewer dirty dishes, and it will feel less like a chore.

Help keep the bugs away

Bugs like roaches are always drawn to dirty sinks and kitchens.

To prevent you from needing insecticides to get rid of them, keeping your kitchen clean all the time is a good practice.

It saves time

As I mentioned above, as with putting things back in their place after use, it just takes a couple of minutes to do the dishes you’ve used for one meal than multiple dishes.

Also, the more dishes you have, the more likely you are to put off cleaning them, which leads to accumulating even more dirty dishes that would require even more time to clean.

5. Declutter more often

Decluttering is the act of getting rid of things you don’t need or use anymore.

Things that don’t hold value to you anymore.

Instead of having these things just sitting around and taking up valuable space and creating clutter, you get rid of them to reduce the clutter and make more room for things that bring more value to you.

You can resell or donate some of these items if they are still of decent quality.

The problem is that most of us rarely take the time to declutter.

Some only declutter once every couple of years.

Make an effort to cultivate the habit of going through your stuff regularly and decluttering more often.

A piece of an outfit you were reluctant to get rid of three months ago might be one you are willing to resell currently, probably because of a rise in trend or because you would get a lot more value from selling it than keeping it.

Sometimes you don’t remember some of the things you own until you are decluttering and find items you forgot existed.

Decluttering is essential for freeing up space in your home.

6. Downsize when necessary

At times, the main problem causing your constant struggle with clutter is that you just have too much stuff for the space you have.

Perhaps you have too many clothes for your closet size, or too much, or too large furniture for your space.

In this case, the most efficient thing to do will be to downsize.

For example, if you have a king-size bed in your room that takes up all the space and leaves very little room for other things, you can downsize to a queen or double bed if that will fit your needs just fine.

Try figuring out things you consider to be excesses in your current living that you can do just fine without; try cutting them out or reducing them.

Downsizing should not be seen in a negative light, as it does not equate to downgrading the quality of your living.

Instead, it should be seen as a great way to be intentional with the things you own while keeping clutter to a minimum at the same time.

Ready to clutter-proof your space?

If you could only pick up one thing from this post, it should be the golden rule that the most efficient way to tackle clutter is to prevent it from accumulating in the first place.

These tips listed in this post are methods that are sure to help keep your space looking tidy all the time.
